About

A gallery specialising in contemporary ceramics with a web shop featuring world-class ceramics by leading international artists.

The Ceramic House is also a boutique guesthouse, artist residency, and is the creation of architectural ceramicist Kay Aplinwho has created a permanent showcase of her ceramic installations.

Usually in May as part of Artists Open Houses, Kay curates exhibitions of contemporary ceramics when the house is open to the public. It is open at other times by appointment.

Each exhibition is part of a wider project with a specific theme, therefore the artists selected change each time an exhibition takes place.

Browse our web shop to see Kay Aplin’s tiled artworks and a selection of ceramics including functional, sculptural work and wall pieces.

Sign up on The Ceramic House website to receive updates about upcoming events.

Since 2016 The Ceramic House turned its focus to a project space investigating the intersections between ceramic and sound art practice, when Kay Aplin joined forces with sound artist Joseph Young.

The Ceramic House produces an ongoing programme of artistic projects which are ambitious and international in scope. We partner with museums, galleries, universities and international residencies to create exhibitions, installations, publications, films and performance events which extend our reach beyond The Ceramic House and out towards the wider international artistic community.

We aim to bring artists together from different countries to explore new ways of combining craft and digital art. Our approach is artist-led and driven by the collaborative artistic practice of Kay and her co-curator Joseph Young.

Self-directed residencies are available for sound artists and ceramic artists.
