Bob Seeley The New Total War: From Child Abduction to Cyber Attacks and Drones to Disinformation

About

Russias war in Ukraine is not confined to the battlefield. In this urgent and deeply unsettling talk, Bob Seely MP explains how Moscow has pioneered a new form of total war that blends military force with psychological, technological and cultural weapons. Beyond the tanks and missiles are mass child abductions designed to break a nations identity, the deployment of swarms of drones, relentless cyber-attacks on infrastructure, and carefully orchestrated disinformation campaigns intended to polarise societies and weaken democracies from within.Drawing on his first-hand experience in Parliament and his long study of Russian strategy, Seely reveals how these hybrid tactics are changing the nature of conflict in the 21st century. He will ask whether the West has grasped the scale of this threat, how prepared we are to defend ourselves, and what steps must be taken if Ukraine and liberal democracy are to survive the Kremlins challenge.Bob Seely is the Conservative MP for the Isle of Wight and one of Parliaments most authoritative voices on foreign affairs, defence and national security. A former soldier, he served in the Armed Forces with tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, and previously worked as a journalist covering international conflicts. He has written extensively on Russian military doctrine and information warfare, and is regularly sought out by the media for his expertise on Russia, hybrid conflict and international security.A Q&A Session will follow.
