About
Landscape artist Clare Buckle presents an exhibition of new paintings and prints centred around buildings as both subject matter and metaphor. Industrial buildings, monolithic structures, and the geometry of utilitarian spaces become moments of stillness, holding traces of memory, identity, and lived experience.
The works emerge from an autobiographical sensibility, capturing moments of solitude, introspection and the emotional charge experienced in certain places. Rather than treating buildings simply as architectural objects, Clare approaches them as vessels for what has happened within and around them and the feelings that linger afterwards.
Through shifts in scale, surface and atmosphere, the pieces invite viewers to consider how spaces can shape an inner life, and how personal histories become entwined with the structures that surround us.
Together, they ask what meaning we give to the places we inhabit or work in, and what it means to find solace or significance in spaces often considered functional or unremarkable.
Clare originally studied at the Royal College of Art. She was shortlisted for the Westmoreland Landscape Prize in 2019 and has exhibited widely, including the Royal Academy Summer exhibition, ING Discerning Eye, Guildford Open, Sussex Contemporary and the Salisbury Landscape Open. She held a solo exhibition, Wired for Colour, at the Colonnade Gallery in June 2025.
In addition to her art practice, she runs highly respected courses and workshops in Sussex and online.
