Its the first day back after winter break and the halls of East High are buzzing. The Jocks, Brainiacs, Thespians and Skater Dudes return to their cliques, swapping holiday stories and gearing up for the new year. But everything changes when basketball captain Troy discovers that Gabriella, the brainy girl he sang with on his ski trip, has enrolled at East High. When the unlikely duo decide to audition for the school musical, they shake up the status quo and inspire their classmates to break free from expectations.
