About
Join us for the East Sussex Living History Festival, a vibrant three-day celebration of the past set within the stunning moated grounds of Michelham Priory. With hundreds of reenactors, hands-on activities, live demonstrations, and entertainment throughout the weekend, it promises to be the biggest and most immersive festival yet - which is now in its fifth year! History brought vividly to life
Explore extensive living history encampments spread across the entire site, as hundreds of reenactors bring centuries of history into focus - from the early medieval period through to the Tudor age. Wander through bustling camps, speak with historical interpreters, and experience everyday life as it may have been between the 10th and 16th centuries.
A full programme of combat demonstrations will showcase the skill, strategy, and intensity of historical warfare, offering a powerful glimpse into battlefield life across the ages. Entertainment across the weekend
Enjoy a packed line-up of performances and interactive displays:
- Devilstick Peat returns with his world-famous blend of comedy, circus skills, and chaos - performing two shows daily, alongside hands-on circus workshops in his jester’s encampment
- Gallyard Tudor Dancers bring colour and energy on Saturday and Sunday with lively, authentic Tudor dance performances - and the chance for audience participation
- Anderida Border Morris and Mythago Morris add rhythm and tradition with vibrant displays of Morris dancing on Monday
- And of course, regular combat displays and living history demonstrations throughout the weekend.
Alongside the encampments and performances, visitors can explore a bustling authentic medieval-style market and enjoy the atmosphere of a working historical festival site.
New for this year, relax and refuel at the Sunne in Splendoure Tavern, our fully licensed bar set within the heart of the festival.
Whether you’re exploring, learning, or taking part, the East Sussex Living History Festival offers a full weekend of discovery, storytelling, and immersive historical adventure for all ages.
