About
Join us for a two-day invitation to explore fiction writing in one of the most inspiring settings imaginable. Over two richly textured days we will make Charleston our muse, wandering through rooms once filled with radical thought and artistic reinvention, or finding new life in the shifting light of the garden.
Through a mix of guided exercises, playful prompts and discussion, you'll find space to begin, or to deepen your own creative practice. Whether you arrive with a story idea already forming or simply a feeling you want to follow, this workshop is designed to meet you wherever you are. No previous experience is necessary, just a willingness to write.
We will take time to look closely at objects, at landscapes, and at the traces left behind by those who lived and worked here before us. We will unpick characters, interrogate points of view and try on different voices or shapes for telling a story.
Each day includes dedicated writing time, sharing (if you wish) and practical guidance from an experienced tutor. There will also be a chance to gain insight into the world of publishing for those curious about the next steps.
Expect:
A welcome tour of the house and gardens
Daily writing sessions and creative exercises
Group discussion and encouragement
A delicious lunch made with seasonal, local produce
A chance to read your work aloud (entirely optional)
Above all, this is a workshop grounded in curiosity and care. A gentle, expansive space to write, reflect and reconnect with your creative voice.
