Layers of seaside heritage - exploring the area around the Royal Pavilion with Dr Sue Berry

About

The Seaside Heritage Network are delighted to collaborate with Dr Sue Berry to explore and celebrate the heritage of Brighton's Royal Pavilion and the early development of the resort.

From the 1750s to c1820, the Steine was Brightons prom. This explains the location of the Pavilion, jammed between the busy Steine and East Street, the old main road out of Brighton until Prinny managed to close it and build New Road. This walk will explore the heart of Brightons early resort development. Notes will be provided.

Dr Sue Berry FSA, FRHistS has published widely on the evolution of Brighton and Hove as a resort with particular focus on the Georgian and Regency periods. She has organised many events for the Sussex Archaeological Society and also works with the Regency Society of Brighton and Hove.
