About
Following two incredibly well received Indian Classical concerts, Cellar Arts Club presents the third in this exciting series....
Join us for a captivating night of Indian classical music with Mayukh Gangopadhyay and Chiranjit Mukherjee, two artists whose performances blend depth, tradition and contemporary sensitivity. This special concert brings together the expressive voice of the sarod and the intricate rhythmic language of the tabla, creating a sound world that is both meditative and exhilarating.
Mayukh Gangopadhyay performs on the sarod, a fretless, metalfingerboard lute known for its rich, resonant tone and its ability to glide seamlessly between notes. With its sympathetic strings and singing sustain, the sarod evokes both introspection and intensity, making it one of the most emotionally charged instruments in Indian classical music.
Chiranjit Mukherjee accompanies on tabla, the iconic pair of tuned hand drums capable of astonishing nuance. From delicate, whisper'soft textures to rapid, cascading rhythmic passages, the tabla provides both pulse and poetry a rhythmic conversation that elevates the entire performance.
Together, Mayukh and Chiranjit create a dynamic interplay of melody and rhythm, exploring traditional ragas while bringing their own contemporary sensibilities to the stage. Their collaboration invites listeners into a shared musical journey, full of subtlety, spontaneity and emotional resonance.
Whether you are a longtime listener of Indian classical music or discovering it for the first time, this concert offers a rare opportunity to experience two exceptional musicians in an intimate, immersive setting.
Complimentary Indian snacks will be provided!
