About

Celebrate the centenary of the publication of Virgina Woolf's landmark novel Mrs Dalloway, with an evening with leading author and academic Mark Hussey, as he introduces his luminous new book, Mrs Dalloway: Biography of a Novel.

Discover the story behind the story: follow the remarkable 'life' of Mrs Dalloway, from its first stirrings in Woolf's diaries, through her struggles to shape its form, to the novel's critical reception and lasting legacy. With its daring form and psychological depth, Woolf's novel broke new ground in prose fiction and continues to resonate with readers a century later.

Both an introduction for newcomers and a treasure trove for Woolf enthusiasts, this conversation will reveal how Woolf realised her ambition “to give life and death, sanity and insanity, to criticise the social system, and to show it at work, at its most intense.”

Discover the hidden history and lasting legacy of the novel that redefined modern literature.

The conversation will be chaired by Harriet Baker, author of Rural Hours: The Country Lives of Virginia Woolf, Sylvia Townsend Warner and Rosamond Lehmann
