About

FADS Spring production is Nell Gwynn by Jessica Swale; an exhilarating take on the heady world of the Restoration theatre which premiered in the West End in 2016 going on to win the Olivier Award for Best New Comedy.
It is the late Seventeenth Century (sort of!), King Charles II has exploded onto the scene with a love of all things loud, extravagant and sexy and at Drury Lane, a young punky Nell Gwynn is causing stirrings amongst the theatregoers and scandal amongst the motley crew of actors and playwrights astonished that a woman would dare set foot upon the stage.
Nell Gwynn charts the rise of an unlikely heroine from her unpromising beginnings in Coal Yard Alley to her success as Britain's most celebrated actress and her hard-won place in the heart of the king. However, at a time when women are second class citizens, can her charm and spirit protect her from the dangers of jealous thespians and scheming Courtiers?

Nell Gwynn is presented by kind permission of Nick Hern Books and performances run from Wednesday 25th to Saturday 28th March at 7 30pm in Ferring Village Hall; there will be a licensed bar offering refreshments before the performance and during the interval.
