About
WMCS Youth Company presents, Disney's Newsies Jr. A vibrant, family-friendly musical adapted from the popular Broadway production, itself based on the 1992 Disney film Newsies. The story is set in New York City during the late 19th century, at a time when newspapers were controlled by powerful publishers like Joseph Pulitzer.
The plot revolves around a group of 'newsies' (Newspaper sellers), led by the spirited Jack Kelly, who are struggling to make a living by selling newspapers.
When Pulitzer raises the price of papers, cutting into the kids' profits, Jack and his fellow newsies decide to take a stand. They lead a strike, demanding fair treatment and better wages. Along the way, they are joined by new allies like the feisty reporter Katherine Plumber, who helps them spread the word. As the strike intensifies, the newsies' determination and unity inspire others in the city to join their cause.
