Pedals, Pencils & Pixels: picturing the South Downs with Jo Burt and Finn Hopson

Join us for an evening celebrating the South Downs with two Sussex artists who capture what these hills mean to off-road cyclists.

Jo Burt – Cartoonist

Creator of cartoon strip Mint Sauce, Jo Burt has documented the thoughts and follies of a mountain biking sheep for more than 35 years. The South Downs form the backdrop to Mint's antics, and Jo himself is a familiar figure riding the same hills that inspire his drawings.

Finn Hopson – Photographer

Brighton-based photographer Finn Hopson depicts the Downs through landscapes that reveal their patterns, rhythms and seasons. Exploring by mountain bike and cargo bike, he seeks out off-road vantage points to create his distinctive images.

For the first time, we're bringing these two South Downs visionaries together to talk about how they see the hills they both call home, and how cycling shapes their art.

Hosted by MASON Cycles at the MASON Barn, overlooking the River Adur, the evening includes nibbles and refreshments, with Sussex lager from Long Man Brewery.

Proceeds will support the South Downs Trust and the ongoing care of the South Downs Way.
