About
Join us at Farleys for a workshop in which you will engage with collage as a creative outlet, making your own compositions to take home, while guided by highly experienced artist, Mark Ellender.
Like many Surrealists, Roland Penrose utilised the power of incongruity in his art making process by mixing media & imagery in his collage compositions. Picture postcards were central to this practice throughout his career.
With Mark, you'll explore ways to access the bizarre and unexpected using rubbing techniques, drawing materials, postcards and various papers.
Mark Ellender studied Fine Art at Exeter College of Art & Design, specialising in painting. In the last few years, his art making practice has evolved and compiling beautifully intricate collage has become his main creative outlet. He says, 'I love the whole process, the 'hunt' for source material, harvesting the diverse visual elements, making the arrangements, sometimes meticulous, sometimes random, that always culminate in creative exercises of artistic experimentation and problem solving. The finished pieces transform seemingly unrelated images into cohesive, meaningful works of art.'
Tickets £75, non-refundable, no exchanges. Please be sure of your availability before booking. The workshop includes: 3 1/2 hours tuition, with 1/2 hour for a lunch break. Please bring a packed lunch, or you may purchase a lunch from Farleys Cafe. A complimentary cup of tea/coffee with a slice of homemade cake, and access to Farleys galleries and garden is included with your workshop. It does not include a House Tour. The workshop runs between 11.00am – 3.00pm.
On the day: Please check in at Farleys Gallery, your workshop will then be held in Farleys new Atelier in Farleys Yard.
