About
Join artist and lecturer Davy Brown for a close look at the printed works of Robert MacBryde and Robert Colquhoun, inspired by Charleston's current exhibition 'Robert MacBryde and Robert Colquhoun: Artists, Lovers, Outsiders'.
This event focuses on the period the 'Two Roberts' spent living and working in Lewes during the 1940s, supported by the 'Ladies of Miller's' sisters - influential patrons whose encouragement coincided with one of the most experimental and productive phases of their careers. Brown will explore how printmaking, particularly lithography and monoprinting, played a vital role in both artists' individual practices.
Beginning with a short history of monoprinting, the session will move into a live demonstration of two key techniques used by MacBryde and Colquhoun: carbon-transfer drawing and monotype printing. Through this practical insight, audiences are invited to gain a deeper understanding of the material processes behind the work.
Curated by writer and broadcaster Damian Barr, the exhibition 'Robert MacBryde and Robert Colquhoun: Artists, Lovers, Outsiders' restores the artists to the centre of the modernist story. This event offers an opportunity to deepen your understanding of their work through the lens of print and process.
This event is free to attend, but booking is essential as spaces are limited.
The event takes place at Charleston in Lewes.
