The Battle of Cable Street 90th Anniversary Celebration Gig (a Real Music Club Event)

About

90 years on from The Battle of Cable Street in East London it has never been more timely to celebrate and reflect on the courage, community strength and neighbourly unity shown that day, and in similar incidents such as the Battle of South Street in Worthing 1934 where Mosley's British Union of Fascists were also confronted, right up to today, as seen with 'The Battle of Trafalgar Street' in June this year here in Brighton.

The Far Right marched directy past the Prince Albert as we hosted a gig, with a newly installed blue plaque now documenting the resistance shown once again by a community united against the extremism and fascism that is infecting our communities once again.
.
At this Love Music Hate Racism supported event, we celebrate resistance and come together in community, as neighbours, as music lovers, as anti-fascists and anti-racists, standing up to those who wish to do us harm, curtail our freedoms and divide us. We take inspiration from those that resisted before us, and take our own collective strength in todays battles.

The Real Music Club Presents ....

Dog of Man - Underground psychedelic punk freak-out band return to the Real Music Club with their exhilarating acid-punk, psych, Balkan, and noise-rock mashup. Described as "bitcrushed, ambient, and melodic" with a high-energy chaotic live show, Dog of Man will see the night out with a bang!

Jesus & The Zealots - Fresh from their recent Brighton debut East London's exciting psychedelic goth rock and occult-inspired post-punk bring their 1980s dark-wave tinged songs themed around Old English folklore, ghost stories, dark Wicca, and the occult. Frontman Henri Parnell grew up near Cable Street where you cannot escape the echoes of that historic day in 1936 when people came out in their 100, 000s to counter Mosley's Black Shirts

Gregg McKella - well established and popular Brighton-based singer-songwriter and frontman of Paradise 9, Gregg brings his strong sense of social conscience and a song book crafted in Ladbroke Grove and finessed in Brighton.

Tim Burness - a welcome solo return to the Real Music Club stage for Tim Burness whose music continually probes the deep questions and complexities of our mind, our hearts and our world. Tim is currently recording material for his ninth album with his long term band featuring Monty Oxymoron (The Damned), Fudge Smith and Keith Hastings.
