About
For nigh on five decades, The Curtain Club was an essential rendezvous for the LGBTQ community in Brighton as well as being a vital and essential part of the city's cultural heritage.
There's no doubting how important it once was to a community and the passing of time has only enhanced its iconic reputation.
Now, the iconic Curtain Club is back, resurrected for a night of retro revelry on Friday, August 1st, 2025, at the Koko Club in the Queen's Hotel, Brighton, BN1 1NS. Just in time for Pride celebrations, this is your chance to step back in time and relive the magic of one of Brighton's most beloved venues. For those in the know, the name "Curtain Club" conjures up images of vibrant nights and a community forged on the dance floor. It was more than just a venue; it was an essential rendezvous, a haven, and a cornerstone of Brighton's cultural heritage. Now, it's coming back to life in the very same location where it all began. Your hostess, Lady Laverne, legendary Drag Queen and DJ extraordinaire, fresh from a dazzling stint playing tunes in Las Vegas, will be spinning the grooviest 1960s Soul and Motown to the funkiest 1970s Disco, Glam Rock and more from 8pm onwards. This is more than just a party, it's a celebration of Brighton's vibrant LGBTQ+ communities past. Come hear those unforgettable retro sounds, reconnect with familiar faces, and immerse yourself in the atmosphere that made the Curtain Club so special. Whether you were a regular back in the day or simply curious to experience a piece of Brighton's history, this is an event you won't want to miss.
As a curtainraiser to this year's Brighton Pride Weekend, we're planning a Revival Night in the very same premises which was such a magnet for so many. We can't hope to replicate the atmosphere of the old club, but hope to give you an idea of the special magic of The Curtain Club and we'll be playing many of the great sounds of The Curtain Club era. A rather special DJ - and quite outrageous character - will be seeing to that.....and maybe, just maybe - some of the old faces will be present to say just what The Curtain Club meant to them.
Do please spread the word and save the date....this could be a night to remember!
