About

Introducing five women artists, each working in a distinct medium, who have exhibited together on many occasions. So what makes this time different? The working title 'UnSeen', reflects the shared excitement in creating new and slightly experimental work – ideas that have lingered beneath the surface, waiting to emerge. Brief reflections from each artist offer a glimpse into our diverse and personal interpretations of what 'UnSeen' can mean.

Anna Cates:

Decay-proof. With the lathe as a starting point, Anna offers a playful exploration of fruit. Turned wood is sculpted and painted to satisfying sculptural forms, highlighting the beauty in these everyday objects that deserve to be properly seen. Bananas so realistic, that they make you look twice. Apple varieties not chosen by supermarkets. Scale and dimensions pushed to make the unseen noticed.

Jane Denman:

"Unseen Expressions" invites viewers to experience the hidden layers of stillness and calm through painting – a quiet space to pause, away from the noise of everyday life. As an artist, Jane reveals what often goes unnoticed, shaping daily moments into visual reflections. This exhibition highlights the unseen power of colour and the intimate stories within her work, encouraging all to discover what lies beneath the surface.

Lorraine Gibby:

In this new work, Lorraine experiments with exposing seams and joins, which are usually hidden or disguised, drawing the eye with embellishment, and inviting you in to look beyond to hidden parts. Taking the time to explore the unseen facilitates and understanding of others, of objects and of our surroundings.

Fleur Grenier RCA:

HOME- Reveals the hidden essence of belonging shared by all beings. Whether nest, ocean or shelter, home offers safety, comfort and connection. It's where we rest, eat and live in peace – alone or in community. Beyond walls or form it's the unseen feeling that unites every creature: a place where we simply, instinctively belong.

Jessica Jordan:

In interpreting the word 'Unseen', Jess calls to mind the patterns and textures that we pass over on our paths everyday: the wall with a small flower growing from it; the green moss in between the pavement cracks; the patterns and textures that are unseen in everyday life; the things that we pay no attention to until they are pointed out. This body of work explores the details of our world of beautiful landscapes that are unseen, unheard and forgotten.

UnSeen brings together five women artists, long-time collaborators, each working in a distinct medium. This exhibition explores new, slightly experimental work—ideas that have lingered beneath the surface, now brought into view. Each artist reflects on their own interpretation of the theme:

Anna Cates highlights overlooked beauty in fruit through playful, hyper-real turned wood forms.

Jane Denman captures quiet, unseen emotional moments in her vibrant paintings.

Lorraine Gibby reveals hidden joins and structures in jewellery to explore the unseen in people and objects

Fleur Grenier explores the deep-rooted sense of 'home' shared by all living things.

Jessica Jordan celebrates overlooked natural textures and details in ceramic form.

Together, they reveal what often goes unnoticed—inviting you to see the unseen.
