Whispers: Connecting with the Human Spirit at KMA Gallery

Gently escorting us into autumn, KMA Gallery presents the exhibition Whispers, an invitation to connect with the essence of what unites humans and nature across time. The space becomes a place of contemplation, featuring textile works by Valérie Wartelle and sculpture by Davide Galbiati.

Using the traditional craft of wet felting and the expressive qualities of natural fibres, French artist Valérie Wartelle’s process is both tactile and immersive. She explores the deep emotional and sensory connections we hold with the natural world, creating not literal landscapes, but evocations - intimate responses shaped through fibre, textile, and colour. For Whispers she has created a number of works aiming to inspire the viewer to look inward at their own personal response to the land.

Conversely, Italian artist Davide Galbiati draws inspiration directly from human experience through the work of ancient sculptors. Creating in a variety of materials like concrete, bronze and resin, he seeks to make tangible the invisible spirit beneath the physical body. His forms combine ancestral peoples of the past with civilisations of an unknown future, reminding us of our deep shared history across time and space. In conversation with Valérie’s evocative compositions, a connection to the wide breadth of Earthly human experience is created.
