About

A boutique guesthouse offering unique accommodation and a rare chance to experience staying in a living artwork. The creation of architectural ceramicist Kay Aplinwho has covered her house and garden with ceramic installations.

It is also a pop-up gallery; usually in May as part of Artists Open Houses, Kay curates exhibitions of world-class ceramics in the house, garden and gallery.

We welcome visitors from all around the world for short stays and visits, ranging from one night to several months. Whether you are in need of accommodation for a short holiday, a work trip or a longer stay for work or study, this is a haven and you will be very comfortable in our peaceful, special artist’s home.

We have four rooms available, two en suite and two with a shared bathroom. Each room sleeps 2; the loft has up to two fold-down beds for children. All the bathrooms feature tiled installations. All rooms have free WIFI. We do not provide breakfast. Tea and coffee making facilities are provided in every room.

The Loft Room is a gorgeous, spacious room, full of light, beautifully furnished with hand-made/retro furniture and the Llanbradach Spires Bathroom. Amenities include: flat-screen TV, DVD, stereo, radio, kettle.

The Gallery Room, in a separate building in the garden, functions as a white cube gallery space when exhibitions are on, and the rest of the year it is a bijoux self-contained studio with en-suite Bamboo Bathroom. It has a double bed, mini-kitchenette, underfloor heating and a small conservatory. It has its own terrace with French doors leading to the Blackberry Hill patio and its own street entrance. Amenities include: flat-screen TV, DVD, fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster. Pets are welcome.

The Deco Room is a lovely, spacious room, beautifully furnished with art deco furniture and a comfortable double bed. The Blues Room is a beautiful quiet room overlooking the Ceramic Garden with a futon style double bed and the Portuguese bathroom is right next door. Both rooms have kettles. If Deco room is booked with private bathroom the blues room is left unoccupied.

We have been hosting guests here since 2012 and hundreds of guests have left enthusiastic reviews:

“This was a wonderful discovery – stepping into such an effortlessly creative space. We arrived amidst the setting up of a remarkable display of Korean ceramics. Creeping around the house revealed so many delights. What a lovely home!”

“Such a lovely house to spend a couple of sunny days in Brighton in! Really enjoyed taking in the plethora of intriguing art and the wonderful garden and atmosphere. Thanks for a great time!”
