In September the Heritage Open Days offer visitors a chance to celebrate our history & culture, and several Brighton & Hove venues will be taking part with opportunities to get a sneak peek behind the scenes of some of our iconic buildings.

There are over 50 Heritage Open Days events taking place across Brighton & Hove from 12 - 21 September so to help you get started we've highlighted a few of them below. Although before we begin we would like to give an extra special mention to the team at the Regency Town House as in addition to the events happening at their own venue, they have also organised a lot of the other walks, talks & tours. Thank you!

Future Hove

The Regency Town House Tour

Step back in time and join curator Nick Tyson for a tour of this Grade I listed 1820s terraced house. Brighton Dome Tours

This year marks the 90th anniversary of Brighton Dome's spectacular transformation into an Art Deco concert hall. Join historian Dr Kathryn Ferry as she explores this striking redesign and how it enabled the venue to capitalise on the popularity of Hollywood glamour. St Bartholomew's Church

Drop-in to St Bartholomew's Church and discover a masterpiece of brickwork providing a moment of calm in the centre of bonkers Brighton! After visiting the church we recommend dropping down to London Road to explore Brighton Open Market, an indoor market full of independent traders. Booth Museum Open Day

The Booth Museum of Natural History will be opening its doors giving visitors a chance to chat to the curators and find out more about the exhibits and how they came to be at the museum. Plus, there will be a special talk from Dr Alexandra Loske about giraffes, zebras and other creatures in the Georgian Era. 


Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens

We know this isn't in Brighton, but we decided to include it anyway as it's such a lovely place to visit. Plus, Brighton makes a great base from which to experience Sparkling Sussex. Visit Leonardslee and explore woodland gardens, towering champion trees, tranquil lakes, wild wallabies and a deer park.


Brighton Toy & Model Museum Tours

The delightfully quirky Toy & Model Museum is tucked away in an arch underneath Brighton Station and offers visitors a chance to relive their childhood. Don't miss this wonderful opportunity to join a tour & hear fascinating stories that bring the collection to life.

Meet at the Duke of York's Picturehouse and then join The Usherette as she leads you through the city on a tour evoking the Golden Age of the Silver Screen. The walk ends at Pinello which was formerly the Pandora Gallery, where the first films to be shown outside London were screened in 1896. Today Pinello is a Mediterranean restaurant making it the perfect place to refuel after all those steps!


Friends Meeting House Open Day

Visit the Brighton Friends Meeting House in The Lanes and discover the long and fascinating history of the Quakers. There will be a variety of old Quaker documents, books, pictures and artefacts on display.


Behind the Scenes at Sussex County Cricket Club

Theatre Royal Brighton Open Day

This historic theatre will open its doors for a day of fun activities and a chance to explore this beautiful 218 year old theatre. Find your favourite seat, take a photo in the Royal Box, find out about theatre ghosts, search through archive items, join a free tour and enjoy some family arts and crafts.
