About

Borde Hill is a 2,000-acre Estate in West Sussex located just 30 minutes from Brighton, which has been owned by the Stephenson Clarke family for over 130 years. At the heart lies a Grade II listed Elizabethan Mansion House set within a stunningly beautiful and botanically rich landscaped Garden and traditional Parkland, open to visitors annually from February to December.

Listed by English Heritage as being of Grade II* historic importance and set in 383 acres of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the High Weald, Borde Hill is of national botanical importance. The Garden is renowned for its impressive collection of rare and exotic trees, shrubs, and plants, many grown from seeds collected by Colonel Stephenson R Clarke, a horticultural pioneer who sponsored plant hunting

Visitors can explore a series of outdoor Garden rooms, each with its own character, from the colourful Azalea Ring and tranquil Italian Garden to the stunning Rose Garden, perennial borders, and subtropical dells. Woodland walks, specialist plant fairs, live music, and wellbeing experiences at Sauna Oreka and Folde Studio offer something to enjoy throughout the season. Children’s trails and activities, from tree climbing to Santa’s Grotto, bring adventures for the whole family.

Nature-led Dining Experiences

From casual cafés to an elegant glasshouse restaurant

Borde Hill brings together a collection of welcoming spaces to eat, drink and unwind. Its seasonal, family-friendly Garden Cafés offer day visitors freshly prepared sandwiches, homemade bakes, and barista coffee, all crafted using locally sourced ingredients – an ideal spot to pause for a light bite during a Garden visit.

Next to the Garden, the restored Victorian Stables house a vibrant collection of new dining destinations, from Edie’s Kitchen, offering relaxed, family-friendly daytime dining, to Isca, an elegant glasshouse restaurant. Rooted in nature, their seasonal menus bring the garden to the plate, guided by biodynamic principles and a commitment to casual excellence.
