Big Brighton Weekends
If something is worth doing, it's worth doing properly which is why Brighton's biggest events don't just last for one day, they take over the city for whole weekends!
When planning your trip to Brighton & Hove book in a weekend break to make the most of the festival atmosphere. There are major festivals and events thoughout the year but to help you plan ahead here is a round-up of some of the Big Brighton Weekends.
Please note for all the events listed below dates do vary annually so please check the festival websites before travelling:
The city is taken over by geeks as we welcome the Brighton Science Festival and the half-term weekends are dedicated to Bright Sparks with science experiments to inspire younger minds and activities featuring everything from creepy crawlies to serious snot!
The Brighton Marathon (typically second weekend in April) is about more than just the main event. The exhibition at the Brighton Centre runs for the whole weekend and features seminars as well as sports and fitness brands. Other events include the Mini Mile and the BM10K.
The first weekend of May is a busy one as it marks the start of the Brighton Festival, Brighton Fringe, Artists Open Houses and HOUSE plus it (usually) falls on the bank holiday so there is an extra day for celebrations! The Brighton Festival opens with the ever-popular Children's Parade through the city which each year has a different theme.
The Great Escape (usually third weekend in May) has firmly establised itself as the best place to catch the next big thing. For three nights music fans descend on the city wearing wristbands and running frantically around the 30+ venues to catch as many gigs as possible! Past acts to perform incude Adele; Royal Blood and Ed Sheeran.
Brighton Bear Weekend is a big celebration of bears and those who love them! The weekend in June includes a varied programme of events such as a pub quiz, bear's picnic and of course some ca-bear-et!
Paddle Round the Pier is the world's biggest free beach and watersports festival taking place over the first weekend of July. The festival provides a great opportunity to try out different sporting activites, there's also live music and entertainment.
Summer in Brighton means LGBT Pride with events happening over the first weekend in August including the famous parade and party in Preston Park. Be warned accommodation sells out for the weekend so book early to avoid disappointment.
