Brains at the Bevy: The Cure and why music matters with Simon Price

About

Wednesday 4 June 2025, 6pm at the Bevy Pub.
Speaker: Simon Price

The Cure was formed in Crawley by Robert Smith and, between the albums Three Imaginary Boys (1979) and Songs of a Lost World (2024), the band were responsible for iconic 80s tracks that still charm new audiences today, including 'Boys Don't Cry', 'The Love Cats', 'In Between Days' and 'Close to Me'.

In a 45-minute Brains at the Bevy special event, local Bevy-goer and internationally renowned music journalist Simon Price will talk about The Cure, about the research and writing of his book Curepedia An A-Z of The Cure (2023) [forthcoming in paperback as Curepedia -The Story of The Cure ] and about his many experiences at the forefront of music journalism including highlight pioneering interviews with Suede, Wu-Tang Clan, Rage Against The Machine and The Darkness as well as his Everything (A Book About Manic Street Preachers) (1999).

Simon Price is an award-winning author and music journalist, as well as a club DJ and History Of Pop lecturer. He grew up in Barry, South Wales and is now based in Brighton. His first book, Everything (A Book About Manic Street Preachers) , published by Virgin in 1999, was named Book Of The Year by NME and Rock Book Of The Decade by The Guardian , and became the fastest-selling rock biography in UK history. His second, Curepedia An A-Z Of The Cure , was published by White Rabbit and Dey Street in 2023 and named one of the books of the year by The Guardian .
