Causeway Chamber Orchestra - A Musical Offering

About

Join the Causeway Chamber Orchestra as we discover the lesser-played masterworks of the 'Enlightenment era.' Horsham-born Luca J. Imperiale, a historical performance scholar currently studying at the Royal College of Music, lifts his baton to lead this new and exciting orchestral venture headed by a mixture of local musicians and up and rising soloists.

J.C. Bach, the youngest son of J.S. Bach, spent the majority of his time in composing in music in England - later becoming know as 'English Bach.' He became associated with many of the most prolific composers of the classical era, e.g. Mozart and Haydn and went on to fund a tremendously popular concert series alongside virtuoso composer and improvisor, Abel (Bach-Abel concerts) which is were J.C. Bach's six symphonies were first premiered.

C.P.E. Bach was a revolutionary in every sense of the word - his style of composition pushed baroque compositional conventions to the limit, instead championing the 'gallant' or 'sensitive' styles; helping to transition into the classical era of composition. C.P.E. Bach spent most of his time playing harpsichord and writing music for King Frederick the Great of Prussia alongside contemporaries such as J. J. Quantz. Like most of his string writing, his Cello concerto in a major is incredibly demanding and is taken on in our 'A Musical Offering' concert by Royal College of Music cellist Catherine Cotter.

Considered to be the pinnacle of music composers by many, the works of J.S. Bach are celebrated musicians for their dense and highly intelligent use of melody and harmony, as well as the emotional content found within the works. In Bach's own time, he was know best as an organist and church composer - writing music for the weekly church services. The Brandenburg Concertos come as a set of six and were written for Margrave of Brandenburg-Schwedt (Christian Ludwig) and are know for their wide and encompassing soloistic material for a variety of musical instruments: flute, recorder, oboe, harpsichord, strings, and trumpet in particular.
