About

I am proposing a visit to 2 places of interest near Pulborough, West Sussex, travelling by 19 seater coach from Chandler's Ford.

We will have a coffee stop at The Labouring Man pub, Coldwaltham, near Pulborough and then visit St Botolphs Church, Hardham. This church is a Grade 1 listed building and it contains the earliest nearly complete series of wall paintings in England. Dating from the 12th century, they were hidden from view until uncovered in 1866. The simple church building has seen little alteration and also has an ancient bell.

We will then travel the short distance back to The Labouring Man for a pub lunch. A menu will be sent out to you in due course, so that we can pre-order. There will be a choice of main course and dessert. You can pay individually for your lunch on the day.

After lunch we will visit Champs Hill where we will be able to preview the Art of the Newlyn School travelling exhibition before it leaves for a two year national tour. It will feature 40 of the best paintings from their extensive collection, including those by Stanhope and Elizabeth Forbes, Walter Langley and Dame Laura Knight. Weather permitting, there are also beautiful grounds to enjoy and tea, coffee and biscuits will be served before we head for home.

We will meet at the Fryern Hill bus stop in Chandler's Ford to be picked up by coach at 9:00 am. This is the stop outside the Co op shop and Josie's caf. Journey time to Coldwaltham is approximately 1 hour 30 minutes, depending on traffic.

Schedule for the day:
8:50 meet me at the Fryern Hill bus stop for our coach from Chandler's Ford.
10:30 approximately coffee at The Labouring Man Cold Waltham
11:20 St Botolphs Church, visit with guide to view the medieval wall paintings
