About
Expect all the Mikado wit and music you love, but with a Scottish twist! As one of Gilbert & Sullivans most popular and enduring operettas, The Mikado continues to delight audiences around the world, with its timeless satirical wit and beautiful music. Now, in a bold new take, Eastbourne G&S has transported the well-loved tale of mistaken identity, threatened executions and mischievous little maids to Historical Scotland
In the Scottish town of Ballydew, flirting is a capital offense, and the bumbling tailor-turned-executioner Coco is set to marry his ward, Wynn Somme. Trouble brews when she falls for Nanky Doug, a wandering minstrel whos secretly the son of the fearsome McAdo. To save the town from disgrace, Nanky volunteers for executionthough Coco has no idea how to carry it out. With jealous rivals, absurd laws, and plenty of comic twists, The McAdo delivers Gilbert & Sullivans classic satire with a tartan twist.
Think kilts, clans, and a hearty dose of Scottish charm all while keeping the humour, catchy tunes, and delightful satire that have made The Mikado a favourite for generations.
Whether youre a long-time G&S fan or new to the world of operetta, The McAdo is a show for everyone!
Praise for The McAdo:
...this resetting really does work in that it sharpens and clarifies Gilberts original satirical intent. Berkshire on Stage (Valley Light Opera production)
With thanks to Gilbert & Sullivan Austin, who have kindly given their permission for their adaptation The McAdo to be staged in Eastbourne.
