About

A Special Evening Marking 100 Years of Virginia Woolf's Landmark Novel

Mark the centenary of Mrs Dalloway - Virginia Woolf's celebrated novel - on the very day the story takes place. This event will take place at Monk's House on the historic lawns beside Woolf's writing room, offering a unique opportunity to experience her world where art, literature and life entwined.

The evening will feature live readings by Olivier Award-winning and BAFTA-nominated actress Lindsay Duncan (Birdman, About Time, Gifted), bringing Woolf's words vividly to life. Writers Holly Dawson and Charlie Porter will reflect on the novel's enduring power, joined in conversation by Helen Tyson, literary scholar and Co-Director of the Centre for Modernist Studies at the University of Sussex.

This special event also launches a new campaign to raise £26,000 to conserve a remarkable piece of literary history: Virginia Woolf's shawl. Believed to be the only surviving item of Woolf's clothing, the delicate shawl offers a rare, tangible connection to her life and work. Urgent conservation is needed to stabilise and protect it for future generations, with all funds raised going directly to Monk's House.
