Join Sussex Contemporary at Standen for a special Heritage Makes Day celebrating contemporary craftsmanship and the makers keeping traditional skills alive. Meet prize-winning makers Wendy March and Jubal Prevatte practice combines natural dyeing, textiles and woodturning, with a shared focus on traditional skills, carefully chosen materials and the character of handmade objects. Meet prize-winning stained-glass artist Grace Ayson too, a stained-glass artist, designer and conservator with more than 20 years' experience, including 15 years as a conservator at Canterbury Cathedral Studios. Her contemporary practice is rooted in traditional stained-glass craftsmanship while exploring innovative approaches to light, surface, pattern and architectural space. Grace's prize-winning Drapery Study in Glass translates the softness and movement of fabric into the rigid and fragile medium of glass. The work responds directly to Standen's textiles, decorative details and celebration of truth to materials.

Sussex Craft Studios will be joining us throughout the day too. Try hand weaving and explore one of the foundational skills at the heart of the Arts and Crafts movement. The activity is free and suitable for visitors of all experience levels. No booking is required.
