Fresh from the Lena Dunham Netflix series ‘Too Much’, renouned songstress Ese Okorodudu is playing a live solo set at Lost in the Lanes, the award wining restaurant in Brighton. Renowned for her fusion of soul, funk and jazz as well as fronting Ese & The Vooduu People. Ese draws inspiration from legends such as Jimi Hendrix, Amy Winehouse and Erykah Badu, and her sound is characterised by a blend of smoky vocals, expressive guitar work and a rhythm that drives each song with soulful energy.
Ese originally honed her craft as a busker outside Brixton tube station and in recent years has been adopted by broadcasters from Iggy Pop to Cerys Matthews to Jools Holland. With several studio and live albums to her name, her debut single Fairy Tale was produced by Jay Burnett, known for his work with Grace Jones, the Beastie Boys and Neneh Cherry, who describes her as “the best natural singer I’ve heard in 30 years.”
