2nd Chance Fringe26! A Head Full of Bees by Lela Bergeron

About

Expect Sesame Street meets The Exorcist in this Solo character comedy with original songs and puppets about growing up with undiagnosed ADHD in fundamental Christian America

Hot mess hairdresser Lola has a big secret. She's been faking it, all of it.
Sanity, self-esteem, capable mother and salon owner. Truth is, she's been thumping against the walls of life all her life and the Jesus Loves You scratch-n-sniff stickers haven't helped. So just what the f\*\*k is wrong with her? No one seems to know, except maybe Lola's formidable Mama Patsy, everything!

With the dubious "help" of the super critical Shame Parrot, (a lurid, furry puppet) and Media maven Moda Monde' (spoof news clip videos
throughout) Lola is determined to figure it out, whatever "it" is. Join Lola on her journey from 70's Los Angeles to 90's London and beyond as she faces her past and learns what it means to be neurodivergent. Based (very loosely on a true story) about learning to love your weird.

Featuring an ADHD diagnosis written as a gameshow entitled "WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?" and a sci-fi scene explaining the
neurodivergent brain and medication, A Head Full of Bees informs the audience and creates accessible dialogue via a curated program hand-out with glossary and resources.

Los Angeles born writer and performer, Lela Bergeron has lived in the UK and worked steadily as a voice artist, singer and professional idiot for 3 decades. She is a mother of three grown children and still does hair occasionally. She was diagnosed with severe, mixed presentation ADHD at the age of 52. And was astonished to learn that she'd lived most of her life undiagnosed, but instead had clawed her way through shame, squandered opportunities, addiction and recovery. After the relief and fury, came the realisation that the evidence of ADHD had existed throughout her very religious childhood, teens and adulthood. The more she learned, the more she saw how ADHD had manifested in herself and others and how little people understood it. So she wrote a bout it, naming it after her description of how her mind felt at her initial
Appointment with her psychiatrist.

Just back from a full run at Edinburgh Festival Fringe, A Head Full of Bees secured two 4 reviews and a huge amount of positive audience feedback. This is LeoLibra's debut production and Lela's first solo show.
