Speakers: Dr Theo Fotis
In collaboration with the Brighton and Hove Ageing Well Festival 2025
Discover how 'Living Labs' are helping older adults shape digital tools for better health and independence. Dr Theo Fotis shares real-life stories, co-designed solutions, and practical tips to help you explore the technologies that support wellbeing in later life.
More and more, health services and technologies are being designed wit people rather than for them. Co-design in healthcare, where patients, carers, professionals, and communities work together, is now widely recognised as the best way to develop services that truly meet peoples needs.
This presentation explores how we innovate together with older adults in real life settings, called Living Labs, to co-create and test digital health solutions. These labs allow us to learn from the lived experiences of older people and use their insights to shape better tools for selfcare, healthy ageing, and independent living.
Theo will share stories from these collaborations, showcase how everyday technology can support wellbeing in later life, and offer ideas on how to explore and identify the right digital tools that work for individuals.
Dr Theo Fotis is a Reader in Digital Health and Innovation Research and leads a number of community based Digital Health Living Labs across the South East, focusing on codesign and real world testing of digital health solutions.
The Ageing Well Brighton and Hove annual festival provides opportunities for people aged 50 and over to explore new experiences and meet new people. The festival is a celebration of Brighton and Hove as a City in which to age well, to highlight the many activities that help reduce isolation and increase well-being in the older population. The Festival allows event organisers to put on special events that are examples of the year round activities that are available to people looking to meet new people and stay active in body and mind.
