About

Get ready to fire wild pottery pieces, including the cool smoky effects of Raku, hands-on and fun!

Explore the magical world of raku and alternative firing techniques in a relaxed, outdoor setting. Hosted by Turn & Fire, and held in our garden studio in Hurstpierpoint, each workshop will guide you through three unique firing methods, all using our outdoor raku kiln:

- Silver Foil Saggars – Wrap your pots in organic materials, enclose them in silver foil, and let the fire and smoke create unpredictable, beautiful effects.
- Obvara – Dip red-hot pots straight from the kiln into a fermented yeast solution and watch striking surface patterns emerge before your eyes.
- Naked Raku – Experiment with decorating hot pots using feathers, horsehair, sugar, or anything else you’d like to try, resulting in dramatic, smoky designs.
- New to 2026! We'll be trying out microwave raku too!

All materials and pots are provided, and you’ll take home your own finished pieces. We’ll also provide plenty of tea, coffee, and homemade cake to keep you fuelled throughout the day, but please bring a packed lunch.

Details:

- Group Size: Maximum of 8 participants per workshop
- Time: 10:00am - 4:00pm

Location:

- Our garden studio in Hurstpierpoint

Important:

Due to the nature of raku firing, this workshop is not suitable for children or individuals with limited mobility. You will be actively removing pots from a kiln reaching temperatures of over 850°C. 18+ only.
