About

Cranford
By Elizabeth Gaskell
Adapted by Martyn Coleman
Directed by Robert Tremayne & Vicky Newman
Presented by The Ditchling Players
Step into the heart of a small Cheshire town in the mid-19th century, where manners, morals, and a fair dose of mischief shape the lives of its remarkable residents. In Cranford, gossip travels faster than the stagecoach, friendships are tested by secrets, and the quiet routines of village life are often anything but tranquil.

Very little of note happens in Cranford, but then one of the residents find themselves in dire financial difficulties. How do her friends react to this and how can they help her out of this problem and bring it to a satisfactory conclusion

Elizabeth Gaskells beloved classic is brought vividly to life in Martyn Colemans witty and heartfelt adaptation. With warmth, humour, and a touch of poignancy, Cranford captures the charm of a community bound together by tradition, resilience, and a love of storytelling.

A delightful evening of theatre that celebrates the quirks, triumphs, and tender moments of everyday life.
