About

Form, Frame, Fire — a creative day out in Seaford's historic crypt

Visitors looking for a creative coastal day out this May can discover Form, Frame, Fire, a multi-disciplinary exhibition set within the atmospheric Crypt Gallery in Seaford.

Running 20–31 May 2026, the exhibition brings together five Sussex artists working across jewellery, ceramics, painting, photography and glass. Set beneath the historic church and alongside a contemporary gallery space, the venue offers a distinctive backdrop for a varied and accessible arts experience.

Following a successful debut exhibition last year, four artists return with new work inspired by the surrounding Sussex landscape — from sea horizons to woodland textures — joined by guest glass artist Julie Knight. Using the copper-foil technique pioneered by Louis Comfort Tiffany, Knight creates expressive sculptural pieces where light, colour and structure interact.

Visitors can meet the artists in person during a Meet the Artist Day on Saturday 23 May, with refreshments available, offering a chance to learn how materials such as clay, metal, enamel and glass are transformed into finished artworks.

The exhibition is hosted by Sussex Contemporary Illustrators & Printmakers, who run the gallery and provide accessible creative opportunities for local communities and schools throughout the year.

Whether exploring Seaford for the day or planning a short coastal trip, the exhibition offers an indoor, weather-proof cultural stop just moments from the seafront and town centre cafés.
Open daily 10am–4pm, with extended hours 10am–5pm on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 May.
