About
Graham Hughes first brought The Sunshine Kings to West Chiltington Village Hall not long after Keith Rushton first started running the club many years ago. The band was so popular that he has brought The Sunshine Kings back most years since. The music is rooted in traditional jazz and swing, but for The Sunshine Kings variety is the spice of life - the show may have a bit of a nod and a wink to more contemporary New Orleans, bluesy ballads (with chromatic harmonica), some original songs, some early vintage jazz styles (Jelly Roll Morton, Kid Ory and such), hot jazz from a slightly later era (Wingy Manone and others). All guaranteed to surprise you, move you, bring a smile and make your toes tap. All played by six leading musicians hand picked from the thriving London jazz scene. The line-up has evolved and changed over the years as musicians come and go. Graham has his own jovial way of tying it all together into a thoroughly entertaining performance which leaves audiences wanting more.
Graham Hughes: trombone,
Miguel Gorodi: trumpet
Michael McQuaid: clarinet / sax
Brett Nevill: double bass
Dave Ingamells: drums
Colin Good: piano
