Pianist Jonathan Zoob presents a richly varied programme of music by Joseph Haydn, Anatoly Liadov, Nikolai Medtner, Sergei Rachmaninov, and Frédéric Chopin.
The recital opens with Haydn’s Sonata in C major, Hob. XVI:48, a work full of clarity, wit, and poise. From there, the programme moves into the colour and expressiveness of the Russian piano tradition, with Liadov’s Prelude in B minor, Medtner’s Canzona Serenata from Forgotten Melodies, and Rachmaninov’s Prelude in E-flat major. These works bring together lyricism, atmosphere, and emotional depth, offering moments of intimacy, richness, and reflection.
The programme concludes with two works by Chopin: the dramatic Nocturne in C minor, Op. 48 No. 1, and the elegant Impromptu in F-sharp major, Op. 36.
