About
Cloaked in mystery and protected by its impressive ramparts, Newhaven Fort has been keeping secrets safely hidden for almost 150 years. Discover the story of this Victorian fortress and what life was like in two world wars through an array of interactive exhibits and showcases:
- Feel history come alive by immersing yourself into our exhilarating Blitz Bomb Shelter experience
- Imagine you’re on the lookout by climbing to the top of the ramparts to take in the stunning coastal views. Make sure to spot the beautiful South Downs!
- Travel back in time to discover Newhaven’s ancient Iron Age Fort and the history of Castle Hill, on which Newhaven Fort was built
- Feeling brave? Descend into the dark, twisting tunnels of the Eastern Magazine and keep an eye out for any paranormal guests…
- If they’re still full of energy, they can run, climb and swing their way around the activity playground
- After taking in the sights, enjoy a warm welcome and some delicious locally sourced food and drink in the vintage 1940s Tea Room
- Round off your day by taking a look at our selection of quirky gifts and souvenirs in our shop. There’s plenty of pocket money items for the little ones!
With so much to see and do, there really is something for everyone at Newhaven Fort! Well behaved dogs are very welcome, so bring your four-legged family members too!
Most of Newhaven Fort is accessible to all. However, some of the tunnels and ramparts are not fully accessible due to the nature of the architecture and building structure.
